Risk Advisory

Leadership teams rarely lack information. They lack a clear read on which exposures matter, in what order, and what can be done about them before the next decision has to be made.

Built for decisions, not for the shelf

Risk advisory work at Fenwick produces a short, prioritized view of exposure and a set of recommendations that name the owner, the effort, and the sequence. The test applied to every deliverable is whether an executive could assign the first three items the same week they read it.

Reports that describe risk in general terms are common and largely useless. The work here is to separate what is genuinely likely and consequential from what merely sounds serious, and to say so plainly.

Capability areas

  • Enterprise and operational risk assessment for leadership teams
  • Insider risk programs covering employees, contractors, and vendors
  • Due diligence support for hires, vendors, partners, and transactions
  • Crisis preparedness and continuity planning

How the work is framed

Every finding is tied to a decision that leadership either has to make or has already made without the relevant facts. Exposure is described in terms of consequence to the business rather than in abstract severity ratings, and recommendations are constrained to what the organization can realistically execute.

Where a risk is acceptable, the report says so. A recommendation to do nothing, documented and reasoned, is a legitimate outcome and often the correct one.

Common questions

What executives ask first

How is this different from an audit?

An audit measures conformance against a standard. Risk advisory work starts from the decisions leadership is actually facing and identifies what could go wrong, how likely it is, what it would cost, and what is worth doing about it.

We already have insurance and legal counsel. What does this add?

Insurance transfers financial consequence after an event and counsel manages legal exposure once a matter exists. Risk advisory work addresses the period before either is triggered, when the exposure can still be reduced or avoided.

What is an insider risk program?

A defined way to identify, evaluate, and respond to risk originating from people who already have legitimate access, including employees, contractors, and vendors. A workable program sets thresholds and escalation paths in advance so decisions are not improvised during an incident.

Can you support due diligence on a specific transaction?

Yes. Due diligence support is scoped to the decision, whether that is a senior hire, a vendor relationship, a partnership, or an acquisition, and delivered on the timeline the decision requires.
